Expiry
Expiry is how jet4us handles trip requests and offers that run out of time before reaching their goal. It is designed to be fair and predictable — trips do not disappear unexpectedly, and the system always gives you a reasonable window to act.
What expiry means
A trip request expires when it reaches its deadline without completing its journey. This might mean:
- A pooling trip that never gathered enough travelers
- A trip sent to operators that received no offers before the deadline
- A trip with offers that all expired before the traveler selected one
Expiry is a clean, no-harm outcome. No money changes hands. No commitments were made. You are completely free to start again.
When expiry is checked — the lazy approach
jet4us does not expire trips on a real-time clock. Instead, expiry is checked when you open the trip or take an action on it.
This means:
- A trip that technically passed its deadline may still show its previous status until you or someone else opens it
- The moment you interact with the trip, the system checks whether the deadline has passed and updates the status if needed
- You will not be surprised by a trip disappearing in the background while you are away
This approach is intentional. It gives you a natural grace window and avoids situations where a trip vanishes the instant a clock ticks over midnight.
Early-stage expiry — Draft, Pooling, and Full
A trip in Draft, Pooling, or Full status will expire if its deadline passes without progressing to the next stage.
| Situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| Draft trip never published | Expires at deadline |
| Pooling trip never fills seats | Expires at deadline |
| Full trip owner never sends to operators | Expires at deadline |
In all these cases, the trip simply closes. No operators were ever contacted, so nothing is outstanding.
Request-stage expiry — after being sent to operators
Once a trip has been sent to operators, expiry rules become slightly more nuanced — because operators may have already put effort into preparing their proposals.
No offers received
If the deadline passes and no operator has submitted a proposal, the trip expires. The platform gave operators the opportunity and none responded in time.
Has at least one active offer
If one or more offers are still within their validity window, the trip does not expire — even if the original request deadline has passed.
This is an important protection for travelers. If an operator has submitted a valid offer, you deserve time to review and decide. jet4us will not pull the trip out from under you while a real option is on the table.
All offers have become inactive
If all offers have either expired or been declined, and no new offers are coming, the trip expires. At that point, there is nothing left to act on.
Offer expiry
Offers have their own expiry, separate from trip expiry. When an operator submits a proposal, they set a validity window — a deadline by which you must accept.
If you do not act on an offer before its window closes, that offer expires and disappears from your list. You will no longer be able to accept it.
If other offers are still open, those remain available. If the expired offer was the only one, your trip moves toward expiry (subject to the rules above).
Operators set validity windows for a reason — aircraft availability and pricing can change. Reviewing and deciding on offers within a reasonable timeframe gives you the best chance of locking in the option you want.
After expiry — what to do next
Expiry is not the end of the road. It simply means this particular request did not complete its journey this time.
What you can do:
- Create a new trip request for the same route — with updated dates, adjusted seat counts, or different preferences
- Try a different time period when more operators may be available
- Make the trip Public (if it was Private) to reach more potential pooling travelers
- Adjust your route — sometimes nearby airports or flexible dates open up more operator availability
An expired trip request has no negative effect on your account. There is no fee, no restriction, and no mark against you. jet4us is designed for real-world travel planning, and not every trip comes together on the first attempt.
Quick reference
| Expiry trigger | What expires |
|---|---|
| Deadline passes in Draft/Pooling/Full with no progress | The trip request |
| Request sent, no offers arrive before deadline | The trip request |
| All offers expire or are declined, no new ones | The trip request |
| Traveler does not act on an offer before its validity window | That individual offer |
| At least one offer is still valid | Trip stays alive — does not expire |
